Avery Dennison added Supreme Defense Gloss Lite to its North American clear paint protection film range on August 26, 2026. The company positions the new wet-apply film for daily-use cars, leased vehicles, fleets and dealership programmes, with a lower-cost entry point alongside Supreme Defense Gloss.
The product page describes a clear, high-gloss finish with a hydrophobic, self-healing surface and a seven-year warranty. Those familiar PPF features do not explain the whole distinction. The useful comparison is in the layer thicknesses, handling instructions and regional durability terms.
Where the half-mil difference sits
Avery’s August 20 product data sheet lists these typical values. The lower combined thickness comes from the adhesive entry; the listed face-film thickness is the same.

The separate 3-mil polyester release liner is not part of those totals. Gloss Lite also has a protective cap sheet that Avery instructs installers to remove before plotting, flatbed cutting or hand application. Thickness alone does not establish comparative resistance to road damage.
Read seven years with the regional terms
Avery markets Gloss Lite with seven-year warranty coverage, compared with ten years for Gloss. The data sheet separately describes expected durability under proper storage, processing and installation, and links the warranty term to that durability.
For Gloss Lite, its seven-year vertical and horizontal durability entries carry a two-year reduction in New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Southern California and Hawaii. Abrasion and loss of gloss are excluded from warranty coverage. These are North American product terms; a seven-year headline is not a promise of an unchanged surface or unrestricted damage coverage.
Compare the installed quote
The Supreme Defense range now separates the premium clear Gloss option, the more accessible Gloss Lite and the satin appearance of Matte. Avery’s launch announcement positions Lite around price-sensitive projects but gives no installed retail price.
For a useful comparison, ask a shop to quote Gloss Lite and Gloss over the same panels, with the same edge treatment and preparation work. Request the applicable warranty and care terms in writing, then compare the total installed cost. A lower material tier and a smaller coverage package are different choices: keep the coverage constant to see what the product change actually saves.
